I believe Godot acts the way he does because he never got reprimanded for his behavior because it was simply the norm. In my opinion, that particular case was a critic of attitudes towards women in law, atleast in the past. Edgeworth calling Mia a bimbo, Gumshoe flirting with her while on the stand, the whole weird dialogue about Dahlia being a college student? (might be a mistranslation). On the topic of Misogyny regarding Trials and Tribulations, it's not only seen in Godot but in a lot of moments in Case 4. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, if you agree/disagree, etc. This is all to say I really, really love Godot and it annoys me when people say he isn't misogynistic, when it feels like it's an integral part to his character. Godot is trying to selfishly "avenge" Mia, while Phoenix is carrying out her true wishes by being the kind of defense attorney she could be proud of. While Godot is trapped in the past, Phoenix is moving forwards.

He's contrasted with Phoenix in the final moments of the trial for just a second, he sees Mia next to Phoenix. He wanted to "protect" Mia, but his obsession with the past was ultimately detrimental and unhealthy. It's a broken man coming to terms with the truth that he knew all along but wasn't willing to accept. Godot's breakdown is handled so excellently. As I mentioned prior, his whole plan to protect Maya could've been easily streamlined if he swallowed his pride, but he was so focused on being the knight in shining armor that he wasn't willing to go to Phoenix for help. He puts himself in the position of the "avenger", back from Hell to make Wright pay for his sins and selfishly tries to best him in court. And it's only within this framework that Godot can operate he blames himself and Phoenix for the death of Mia, when neither of them could've realistically prevented it. This old-school chivalrous ideal of men protecting their women is out-dated and unfair. That is to say, that Godot's worldview is at least a little misogynistic.

His self-indulgent nature is key to the case and is something that he is well aware of as he contemplates whether he really wanted to protect Maya or just wanted to absolve himself of his intense guilt. He could've just told Wright, or told Maya, but he wanted to play the role of the hero. His plan in 3-5 is flawed because of his unwillingness to compromise he himself admits this. Godot is a character that's fundamentally built on his flaws his percieved failure to protect Mia, his projection of that guilt onto Wright and his self-admitted childish fantasy to beat Wright in court and prove that he isn't Mia's successor. Also heavy spoilers for Trials and Tribulations. I'd like to preface this by saying that I don't mean it's a good thing to be a misogynist, but that it makes sense for Godot, as a character, to have misogynistic views on women. “I am so close to killing again I swear,” Godot said.I posted this in r/AceAttorney and decided it sorta fits here as well. He mumbled something that sounded like “Beard… stupid farts…” “…why couldn’t you have stayed that way?” “Really? You died?” At least Phoenix looked shocked at that. “Death is something I’ve experienced firsthand.”

“But there is something about me you will never understand.” Godot’s voice turned serious. “You know what, Trite? You infuriate me.” “Could you please stop describing your testicles?” Phoenix asked. There’s a darkness underneath, complex and bitter. “You know, there’s a lot to the flavor of coffee. “As if worse hasn’t been said,” Godot sighed. “Prosecutor Godot!” The judge said, banging on the gavel. Do you have any idea what it’s like to be hospitalized for 5 years straight? God, you are just so insufferable, I think I preferred my comatose state over hearing your godawful voice.” “You’ve been nothing but a thorn in my side ever since I woke up. “Fuck you,” Godot said again, another cup of coffee sliding down the desk and into his hand. That was bound to leave a stain on the gaudy suit. “What are you objecting to, Godot?” Trite asked, wiping the coffee off his face. “OBJECTION!” Godot yelled, throwing his mug of coffee at Trite’s dumbass face. He really thought he’d done something, huh? Really milking this opportunity to put Godot in his place, isn’t he? Well Godot wasn’t having any of that. “…and so in conclusion, that would mean that actually, Iris is innocent!” Phoenix had that stupid-ass smirk on his face.
